Winners: MIN vs. ATL

We’re rolling right now. Four straight wins backed by a revised, more conservative approach. This is how betting goes – it ebbs and flows. I once heard the scientific explanation for why streaks are real in betting. When you’re winning, you’re more likely to keep winning because you’ll make more and more conservative bets. On the other hand, when you’re losing, you’re more likely to keep losing because you’ll make riskier bets to try to win back the money you keep losing. We’re in win mode right now and I want to keep winning. No turning back now – only going forward.

Tonight, the Minnesota Lynx play at the Atlanta Dream. We bet this game just last week, winning, only the home teams were different. The circumstances are a little different this time around. First, starting point guard Lindsay Whalen, won’t be playing as she broke her hand in their previous matchup. Second, Minnesota is coming off a rare loss, just their third of the season. The two games after their previous losses, the Lynx defeated their opponents by 16 points. Yikes. Probably even more astonishing is that Minnesota has beaten Atlanta eight straight games.

Atlanta comes into the game struggling. The team has lost four in a row and seven of nine, overall. In their last match-up against the Lynx, Atlanta had a lead going into the fourth quarter and then proceeded to not score a field goal in the fourth quarter. They scored just two points from free throws and lost the game. I watched the quarter. It was not fun to watch.

The odds are a lot closer for this game than the previous match-up but I’m going to go with the rule that some teams just own others until it is disproved.

Pick: Minnesota Lynx -320 (Bet $30 to win $9.38)
