#MLBMondays: MIA vs. WSH

It’s Monday. With that comes a fresh week and an opportunity to be better than you were last week. Last week we started out rough, especially with straight bets, but we were able to salvage the end of the week. Hopefully, we can continue to move forward and leave last week behind us. Take a look at the straight bets registered on the Sports Action App below.

Tonight, the Miami Marlins play at the Washington Nationals. The Marlins are trying to stay in sight of a Wild Card spot but it looks unreachable, while the Nationals have the third best record in baseball. Starting for the Marlins is Chris O’Grady. O’Grady is 2-1 with a 5.40 ERA and a 1.60 ERA. He’s pitched against Washington this season, allowing six earned runs in three innings. They batted .438 against him in three innings. Yikes. Max Scherzer starts for the Nationals. Scherzer is 12-5 with a 2.21 ERA and 0.84 WHIP. Scherzer is on probably five pitchers in baseball that you bet on them winning their games. He’s in the class with Clayton Kershaw. He’s making the start after he left his last game with neck stiffness. Scherzer is fine – he just slept on his neck funny. Scherzer has faced the Marlins this season, pitching a complete game. He got the loss because he allowed two unearned runs. He only gave up two hits while striking out 11.

Here are some trends that may show how the game will go:

  • Nationals are 7-3 in their last 10 against teams with a losing record
  • Marlins are 3-8 in their last 11 against teams with a winning record

Last week we had issues betting teams with who are clearly better than their opponents, but in the season series, clearly struggled with that opponent. We saw lopsided records like 7-1 but ignored it because they were an inferior team – it was just a coincidence. That train of thought has been eliminated by loss after loss. The Marlins are 5-4 against the Nationals this year, but that’s essentially playing even. I wouldn’t consider that dominance, so there shouldn’t be anything to be worried about.

Pick: Washington Nationals -345 (Bet $50 to win $14.49)
