Winners: ANG vs. OLM

Well, yesterday was a little nerve-racking. Atletico was losing 2-0, playing a man down after Antoine Griezmann was sent off with his second yellow car (for diving but if you watch the replay, it was a foul), and with 15 minutes left, came back to tie the game and win us more money. That was way too close for comfort but if I had no idea what was happening, I’d be more than happy with the outcome considering we won more money for the draw. Whatever. It happened. We won. Let’s move on.

Up until this point in the week, we’re undefeated on picks. Today is the last day of the week and we’ve got two games today to play. Let’s see if we can accomplish the rare undefeated week. We’ll pick this first game and assume for the next game. If we lose, I’ll adjust the bet for the second game.

Today, Angers visits Olympique de Marseille in Ligue 1 action. Marseille has been tested early this season, playing three Europa League qualifiers and two Ligue 1 games. They’re undefeated in these games and have scored nine total goals. Marseille added French international Dimitri Payet to an already talented roster during the transfer window to try to create more offense. Early signs say it’s working. On the other side, Angers has started off the season strong as well. They’ve won once and tied once in two Ligue 1 games this season, scoring four goals. Expect offense in this game, but I believe in Marseille’s defense backed by Adil Rami and Steve Mandanda in goal.

Here’s how we’ll bet the game.

  • Pick 1: Olympique de Marseille -167 (Bet $65 to win $38.92)
  • Pick 2: Draw +290 (Bet $24 to win 69.60)

Today, we’re rooting for the outright Marseille win because we’ll net more money. This strategy of picking a winner and the draw has been working so far, so let’s hope it continues. The most important thing is not really counting how much money I’m netting – understand what the net percentage of that bet actually is. For example, if Marseille wins, you would net about $15. $15 on a $65 bet essentially, is a 23% return on an investment in two hours. That’s very hard to beat. Picking the two most likely outcomes gives you added security as well – even if it’s still a game of chance.

Cross your fingers and hope for the best.
