Winners: CIN vs. CHC

Any day you’re up money is a good day. Yesterday qualifies for that rule. Liverpool came through beating TSG Hoffenheim 2-1 in their UEFA game. If you followed the bet, we bet for both a win for Liverpool and a tie, so even though technically we lost one bet, we ended up in the black. I love bets like that where you can win with two of three possible outcomes. It’s rare but I’ll take it.

Today we’ll play two games and a parlay – yeah, it’s the return of the parlay after a rough week a couple of weeks ago. Unfortunately, they only have two outcomes and we’re hoping they’re positive.

Game 1 is the Cincinnati Reds at the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs have been hot since the All-Star break but have cooled off lately, as their only path to playoffs appears to be winning the division. The Reds have been cool all season. However, both teams are 5-5 in their last 10. For the Reds, Homer Bailey gets the start. Bailey is 4-6 with an 8.31 ERA and a 2.03 ERA. He’s been consistent this season – consistently terrible. He did get me last week because of a freak game that’s completely uncommon. I tweeted about it.

Let’s just hope we don’t have a similar fate.

For the Cubs, John Lackey takes the mound. For the season, Lackey is 10-9 with a 4.82 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP, but more importantly he has won his last five starts. He hasn’t allowed more than three earned runs in a start since June. Lackey has two starts against Cincinnati this season, one in which he allowed three runs and one in which he allowed five earned runs. He hasn’t faced them since May and is currently playing his best this season.

Pick: Chicago Cubs -200 (Bet $20 to win $10)

I would play today’s picks in a parlay.

  • Parlay 1 (Bet $10 to win $9.54)
    • Chicago Cubs -200
    • Los Angeles Dodgers -330

Fingers crossed – hoping for the best so we can get back in the black and keep moving forward.
