Winners: NYY vs. CLE

It’s been about a week since the last picks were made. In case you missed out, Lazio and AC Milan both won their Europa League games last week so we moved to 29-2 in the last 31 games picked. It’s been a decent run. We’ll try to keep it going today.

Let’s move to today.

Today, the New York Yankees play against the Cleveland Indians in Game 2 of the American League Division Series. Starting for the Yankees is CC Sabathia. Sabathia went 14-5 with a 3.69 ERA and a 1.27 WHIP. He’s been consistent this season with seven games before and after the All-Star break posting ERA’s below 4.00 in both halves of the season. He hasn’t faced Cleveland this season but current Cleveland hitters are batting .288 against him in his career. That’s not great news.

Starting for Cleveland is Corey Kluber. Kluber went 18-4 with a 2.25 ERA and a 0.87 WHIP this season. He’s probably the frontrunner for the AL CY Young now after Chris Sale struggled in the final two months of the season. Kluber faced the Yankees twice this season, both times in August. He went 2-0 against them, posting a 1.59 ERA in 17 innings of work. Hitters batted just .105 against him. That’s incredibly impressive. Even if you think that’s a small sample size, Yankees hitters are only batting .204 against him in their careers – and that’s with 148 official at-bats.

Here are some trends that may sway this game:

  • New York is 1-5 in its last six playoff games
  • Cleveland is 4-0 in its last four divisional playoff games

Pick: Cleveland Indians -240 (Bet $75 to win $31.25)

Corey Kluber has been dominant since the All-Star break, going 11-1 with a 1.79 ERA. Cleveland as a team has been dominant the last 30 games of the season. Obviously, this is baseball and anyone can win one game. However, if you had to bet one game, you could live with the consequences of this one as it’s probably your best shot to predict an outcome.

Fingers crossed.
